So there was a small race involved in this weekend–a 3×2 mile relay! It was Sunday evening and followed by a BBQ dinner for the whole family! It was definitely tough to get the legs going on the soft trails after a tough long run on Saturday, and it was not part of the training plan, but it was fun none the less!
Saturday was the long run day. What is a long run really? I did 12.5 and I’m starting to consider this long run territory…anything after 10 seems long to me. Anyway, it was long. And hot (shocker). And hilly (another shocker). I know I said I needed to stop running hills, but this is it–really. 😉
Since my Garmin cannot upload via my Chromebook, I pulled up the elevation map from when I ran this course in 2013 while training for the New York City Marathon to give you an idea what I’m dealing with here.
Check this out:
Anyway, it went pretty well. I was completely and totally exhausted by the end of 12.5 and was not aimlessly running around for another half mile after all those hills!
Funny thing is, I haven’t talked much at all about my goals for the actual marathon. I’m not sure if I don’t have any, or if I’m just too scared to actually put them out there–I kinda set the bar at NYC in 2013 (after that I was pregnant, hence the hiatus). We’ll see what this month brings and I’ll be sure to share my goals as soon as I know what they are!
What do you consider a long run? 10, 13, 15+??
Do you run around in circles to have your Garmin stop at a round number?

I definitely consider anything after 10 miles or if it’s longer than an hour a long run! I also run in circles to get an even number most of the time- depends on how tired I am 😉 Way to rock that run…you aren’t kidding, those are some big hills!!!

I wish I could’ve hit 13, but I was shot and rationalized that the hills made the run ‘longer’ than it was!
For me a long run is usually over 10 but this summer with my tri training I haven’t run over 4. Fall is going to be hard!

10 seems to be the consensus so far!
I absolutely will run around in circles to get a round number 🙂 A long run for me is anything over 10!
I’ll do it sometimes if I’m not totally exhausted! And yeah, 10 miles for me too!
