Why put off something that is so easy? I always thought I didn’t have the exact ingredients I needed, or that I didn’t have time. But sometimes (and I’m not just talking about protein bites here), you can’t wait for circumstances to be perfect–you just have to go for it.
So just before dinner I threw together these protein bites for the quick fix I’ve been needing before runs, after runs, and every time in between.
Here’s how it came together:
1 cup oats
2 tablespoons nut butter
1 packet Chia ShotsΒ (affiliate link)
a bunch of chocolate chips
1 packet of GoGo Squeeze Boulder Berry
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Form into bite size balls and lay in one layer to set in the refrigerator.
Yes, you read correctly. I stole borrowed a GoGo squeeZΒ (affiliate link)Β from my kids. I carry these pouches everywhere. I’ve been buying the fruit and vegetable mixes for some added nutrition in my little ones’ diets–they love them and we can’t be without them. The Boulder Berry ingredients are: Apple, Carrot, Apple Puree Concentrate, Raspberry, Apple Juice Concentrate, Strawberry, Blueberry, Lemon Juice Concentrate–how great is that?! I figured this would serve a a nice sweetener for the protein bites with an extra layer of flavor as opposed to plain apple sauce.
These protein bites are the perfect intro and I can’t wait to get creative with more ingredients. But for now, GoGo squeeZ did a great job adding flavor that I needed in one easy pouch!

I’ve still never had chia seeds or cooked with them. I keep thinking of those little chia pets we used to have. These do look yummy though!

Still?! I honestly only do because I randomly got these Chia Shots in some race swag. Doesn’t hurt to throw them in some recipes!

Yeah, I didn’t have any flavorful add ins, so GoGo worked great–and we always have those!
Oooo these look so good!!! For the longest time I avoided coming up with my own energy ball recipe because I didn’t know how much nut butter to use, or how many dry ingredients to use, etc. But I agree – sometimes you just have to take the plunge! π
