This is not the post I intended to write.
I was supposed to write about how I celebrated my birthday with a 6.2 jaunt of my favorite hills, followed by cupcakes and beer.
Except the hills never happened…
I chose sleep.
Here’s the thing. My baby is 15 months old. I stated a new job this week. And NO ONE IS SLEEPING.
So I charged my Garmin last night–excited to celebrate my bday on the hills regardless of the amount of sleep I would get. But then Lance got up in the middle of the night with the baby (happy birthday to me!) and for once I just slept. It was the most restful night I’ve had in a while, and suddenly, running that morning became less and less important.
Rest is one of the most important things the body needs–and this was my day. Luckily we made it in time for the post-run treats!
This beautiful fall day also called for some afternoon festivities at my favorite local brewery.
It was just as awesome as it looked.
We capped off the day with family and cake at home. Today is my actual birthday, so let the celebration continue! As you know, I’m in between goals right now, and running is not going anywhere! Sleep like that doesn’t happen everyday around here!
Have you ever chose sleep over a run?
How long do your birthday celebrations go on?

Thanks Amanda!
Happy birthday!!!!! Yes I have chosen sleep over runs. I listen to my body and try to obey it. As I hit almost mid forties, I know how long an injury takes to recover, so if my body says sleep, snooze on. I hope you have a great day

Thanks!! It is so important to listen to your body to avoid injuries and burnout’
Happy Birthday! Sounds like the perfect way to spend your birthday and you’re so right to enjoy it over a few days. You have to wait another 364 days for it to come back around so why not?! I like to spread my birthday fun out over a week… 😉

Thanks! One day of giving up running won’t hurt!
Sleep is way more important than a run! Good for you for choosing that!! Happy Birthday!!
