It’s been a while since I’ve shared my training with you, so with about two months to go before race day I thought it was about time to check in!
Background
In case you missed it, I had an epiphany one day and signed up for my local Suffolk County Half Marathon. Since then, I’ve been following a Paleo lifestyle (along with my husband who is participating in a 6 week Cross Fit Challenge), and running 3 days a week.
Training Plan
Ok, so when I decided to go for the half I by no means anticipated this being a PR race. Really, I just needed something to give me a kickstart and a half marathon was an attainable goal. So my training plan was more of just building a base for the month of July and most of August. My typical 3 day a week running plan that I like to use, was replace by three pretty slow runs–and I was starting to convince myself that I was just slow!
Then something happened–I ran 4 miles one day (after running 7 two days ago), it wasn’t 5 zillion degrees and 200% humidity.
And I ran {somewhat} fast.
So now my training plan includes an actual tempo run. I’m not getting true speed workouts in at the track, and I know that’s hurting me, but I’ll take my speed where I can get it for now!
Goals
My current half marathon PR is 1:43, so I really don’t expect to be close to that.
Worst Day Goal- I hope to break 2 hours
Good Day Goal- I’d like to go 1:50
Amazing Day Goal-1:45
Based on my training, I’m hoping to have a Good Day!
Where to go from here
I still have 2 months on the calendar to train, but these months are way different from the laid back summer months where I didn’t have to go to work! Working full time, and the kids activities, will surely put a wrench in the training. Hopefully as the new school year settles down, I’ll be back into a nice routine and head into race day strong and confident.
Are you training for anything? How’s it going?

I have a feeling you’re going to crush your race! 🙂
Like the way you break up your goals! Seems realistic. Hope you have a great race day!
I’ve got a half marathon this weekend, but like you absolutely no goals. I’ve just been running enough to get me there injury free but no plans to push it.
Great way to break down all of your goals and look at them that way. Sounds like you are on the road to crushing your race! Thanks for the linkup

It’s amazing how much better we run when the weather cooperates, huh? I bet you’ll crush this race!
Good luck at your race, it looks like you are going to crush your goals!
Good luck with training! Sounds like you’re off to a good start.
I’ve got my first half of the fall season in 7 weeks. I have been running a streak all summer and I’m happy but sad a bit to move from frequent short runs to running 3-4 longer runs per week.
I wish you all the best in your half, it will be here before we know it!
Michelle you’re going to rock the 13.1! I just have a feeling.
Wish you a successful training. Waiting for your new post.
