When my daughter asked a little too late last night to go around the block, I excitedly told her, ‘Don’t worry! Tomorrow isย Global Running Day!‘ย
Her response?
That’s boring!
In her defense she is 4 years old, and holds ‘holidays’ to very high standards. So when she found out that all we would do for Global Running Day is well,ย run, I suppose she was disappointed. I’ll forgive her about her lack of running day enthusiasm, because she loves to do this no matter what day it is:
Anyway,ย today is Global Running Day, and here’s what it’s all about…
Global Running Day is a day for people around the world to celebrate the joys of running. Participation is easyโjust pledge to take part in some type of running activity on Juneย 1,ย 2016. It can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids. The key is to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving. –globalrunningday.org
As part of the running day celebration this year, I’m linking up with a bunch of running bloggers over atย Jonesin’ For A Runย to share a look into our milesย by answering some fun questions. It’s a great way to share my personal thoughts on running with my readers, as well as for me to reflect on my running right now…enjoy ๐
It also happens to be Wild Workout Wednesday, so browse out link up at the end! We are welcoming Jen from Pretty Little Grub as a hostess this week, so give her some love!
A Look Into My Miles
Why do you run?
I run to fuel my athletically competitive spirit. I come from a team sports background, and after playing basketball in college I found running as an outlet. I’m not happy if I’m not pushing myself, and even opted to not run at all while I was pregnant because running isn’t fulfilling for me if I have to (or feel like I have to) take it easy. Running for me is about pushing my body to the brink and competing with myself to be better every time.
How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day?
More than likely we will celebrate with a family run around our block. Weekdays are pretty packed, but with the long summer days we’ve been having, we can definitely squeeze it in.

How many miles have you run so far this year? Do you have a mileage goal for the year?
I’ve never been one to keep track of mileage–even when training for marathons! So no, I have no idea and clearly no mileage goals.
What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year?
My husband and I intentionally did everything from 5ks to an Ironman triathlon before we had kids. Since we have a 4 year old and almost 2 year old, we’ve accepted our priority right now is not racing–and we are ok with that. Last year I actually did the Suffolk County Marathon as a comeback race after my second baby.
Before I leave for a run I must have:
I’m pretty low maintenance, but I do like to have my watch so I can gauge my pace. Lately I also need my FlipBelt to carry my phone.
Do you track your runs? If so what do you use?
As I mentioned above, I’m not one to keep track of numbers, but I do have a Garmin.
Who is your favorite running partner?
My husband and kids of course.
What races have you run so far this year?
A bunch of local 5ks and 10ks.ย Even if I’m not in shape, it’s fun to get out there, see our crew, and get in a workout.
If you have to give someone one piece of advice about running, what would it be?
Learn to listen to your body while running and while your not. I often don’t talk while I run because I’m so focused on my form and assessing my efficiency. Being in tune helps me to make adjustments that increase my speed and avoid injuries. And if you’re not feeling it, take a day off–your body will usually thank you.
Describe your relationship with running in one word:
Focused

Oh I love my Flipbelt too! And I found out they started making water bottles to fit into the belt so I might have to try those this summer!
Enjoy your family run; it looks like your little one is following in your footsteps ๐

Thanks so much!! Don’t get me wrong, my kids are still in training, but they’ll be great running buddies soon!
Your daughter is adorable and that’s the exact same response I would get from my kids if I said that. Haha! And unbeknownst to my daughter, she ran for Global Running Day and I didn’t even prompt her to! So cute. <3

Thanks so much! Yes, I think it was the fact that I told her. Today she asked to run.
That is such a cute Garmin! Mine is so boring compared to it. ๐
That’s great that your daughter caught the running bug! I wish I had learned to enjoy running at a much younger age. It’s such a good way for kids to use all of that energy!
