Remember that time I was in-between goals? I think it’s come to an end. I’m not too sure how it’s going to work right now, but like so many things—I think it may be best to dive right in!
My local running club, The Selden Hills Warriors, participate in a great local trail race Thanksgiving Weekend called Rob’s Run. The long standing race takes place through the trails of Stillwell Woods on Long Island. The 5k course is a mix of flat grassy terrain combined with single track or wide cleared path, all suitable for beginners, but moderately technical in some parts as well. It’s definitely a fun race and I love being in the trails. It’s hard to resist being a part of this one!
There’s nothing like trail running. Watching out for tree roots instead of potholes. Being called at by birds instead of cars. And inhaling crisp, clean air instead of traffic infested pollution.
Love, love, and love.
So back to the part where I’m diving into this race…
You may say, didn’t you just run a marathon? Well, yes—thanks for remembering! But do you know how much I’ve run since then?
1 measly mile.
Yep! I’m that person! That person that let life get in the way. I applaud the people that get up at 5am to fit in their training, but I’m not that person.
At least not right now.
That’s why I’m not too sure how I’m going to fit this in, but I think by Thanksgiving Weekend I should be able to pull it together.
Pulling it together means moving into an unfinished house with two kids while my husband and I work full time. Pulling it together means hoping my 15 month old continues this amazing streak of sleeping straight through the night and waking up at 6am. Pulling it together means totally taking advantage of all the fit lifestyle benefits our new digs have to offer. Pulling it together means staying calm and focused while we uproot our lives one last time.
This journey that we’ve been on for the past 16 months has been the most challenging experience of our lives. We often compare it to the Ironman and half-heartedly joke about how we are on mile 20 of the marathon and just feel like we might never get there!
For those of you wondering, 16 months ago we decided to walk away from the life we knew in order to create a better one for our family moving forward. In June 2014, while I was very pregnant, we sold (and I use that term loosely!) our big house, sold most of our belongings, and packed up what was left (along with our then 3 year old) and moved to a small apartment while we worked on renovating our soon to be new home.
This experience has taught us so much about life. We learned to live with less. We learned to appreciate the little things. We learned the true meaning of perseverance. We learned to be thankful for our life as we watched people around us in much more challenging situations.
So right now, for me, it’s just too much to put fitness first. I did everything I could to make it to the marathon, but now fitness is taking a back seat to life—and that’s ok. I look forward to integrating fitness back into my lifestyle soon enough—and not taking it for granted.
So I say I’m just diving into this race because it’s happening in a time where I can’t imagine what my life will look like, but I’m putting faith in it—and me.
And sometimes, that’s just what you need to do.
I don’t always like to get this deep and personal on here, but sometimes life happens and part of the mission of fruitionfitness.com is to motivate and inspire. So hopefully my story can serve as that to some of my readers.
With that being said, hopefully soon you’ll see new backgrounds in my photos and graphics, and you’ll follow my new and improved fit lifestyle as it evolves with our new surroundings.

Sounds like a wild ride for sure! I applaud you getting through marathon training with all that going on. Redefining short term goals and rearranging your life to make it all fit together doesn’t mean you aren’t motivated, it just means you’re looking at the bigger picture! Kuddos to you!!!

Lol, thanks! So if I fall off the face of the blogosphere a few days a week, now you know why!
I totally empathize with you on having so many crazy circumstances going on in your life that it feels like your life is a marathon! It sounds like you are finally getting to the end of the craziness. 🙂 Congratulations on making it through, and getting back on track! The 5k sounds amazing! I love trail running!

Thank you! Life happens and staying focused is half the battle!
Sounds to me like you have your priorities straight! Fitness is important, but family, life and happiness should always come first. I think that shorter distance race is a great goal – and one you can enjoy and squeeze in while making sure all the other pieces fall together. Keep it up!!

That is a LOT to deal with in 16 months. It sounds like it’s been an amazing experience for you, and so much on your plate! I hope everything goes well with moving in to your new home. Rob’s Run sounds awesome – I love the trail too!

Thanks!
Thanks for being so honest. Life can be crazy at times but it is nice to step back, evaluate, and execute. I went to a outdoor yoga class a few weeks ago and the photographer took a picture of me just zenning out. Actually sitting still. I saw that picture and realize I need to do more of that! Zenning out is what I need to start executing!
