I consider this blog to be a journey. A place where I can share my personal journey as a source of inspiration to others. That includes sharing the ups and downs, ebbs and flows, and fasts and slows {yep, that’s a thing!}. I’ve blogged about the challenges of post baby comebacks, being a fit mom, PRing, and I’ve blogged about being out of shape.
It’s easy to want to paint a picture of perfection–and this weekend it even crossed my mind for a split second. I can’t post this. Now let me preface this with the thing I love most about running–only competing with myself. So my times are comparable with my personal potential. Other people might look at my time and say, Hey that’s great! But, for me–it’s just not. I know where I should be, and I know I’m not even close right now.
So after that thought passed through my mind, I immediately inhaled humbleness and exhaled ego. I decided to accept where I am right now, be patient, and trust the process–trust my training. I’ve done it before, and I’ll do it again.
1. Run Humble
This is my inspiration for the entire post. Give it all up and accept your abilities in the present. Trust the process.
2. Stay Consistent
Most people give up before they get a chance to see the results of their training. Success doesn’t come overnight, and it doesn’t come easy. Stick with it.
3. Always Push
When it hurts, dig deep. Running is not supposed to be easy. If it is, you’re not doing it right.
4. Positive Focus
Focus on the positives. Running is better than no running. 1 minute faster is indeed, faster.
5. Eyes on the Prize
Remind yourself of your motivation. Visualize yourself reaching your goals and keep your motivation fresh.
I’ve come to accept that at this point in my life right now, I just can’t keep it up all year round. I’m inevitably going to have periods of time where I will be in a rebuilding phase–the key is how I handle it 😉
Love this! I think sometimes the rebuilding phase is totally necessary so we can learn how to improve and it gives us the push to do so!

I’ve definitely learned so much from my multiple comebacks. It’s amazing to see the progress time and time again!
Great tips. I am really struggling right now with some nagging injuries as I prepare for Big Sur. If I didn’t have this bucket list race ahead of me, I’d take some time off. Which is what I plan on doing after the race. My body is asking for it.

Learning that it should be hard has been one of the toughest lessons for me to learn. But I realize that’s the only way I will ever get better.

It’s so hard to be motivated 100% of the time! The key is to never give in…you’ll get back at it!
I definitely know how you feel! When I was injured a couple of years ago, it was tough to accept that I wasn’t where I used to be speed-wise, and I’m still not! You really have to stay humble and dig deep!

These are great tips… all are key! I like to remember “my race my pace”, to keep myself aware that I run as fast as I run… and not to compare or try to keep up with someone else.
